Patricia,

Continued great stuff! This chapter had some special chords that rung in my head. Dad and I hiked the ridges outside Lemberg. He found an unexploded mortar round. After a day of tromping, I read about the "Shoe" mines in the regimental history... that combined with his propensity for finding things "blew up in my head". I hope there's a chapter or two on the occupation... Dad told me several tales including some bending of the non-fraternization rules that led a 1995 reunion with a 55 year old German woman introducing herself to me saying "I can't eat a Cadbury chocolate bar without thinking of your father!" You do the math. She was 5, Dad was 20 and his rations had the chocolate... I've entitled the "book" (in my head) about his exploits with the occupation "Kings of the Universe"... the power to do so much evil, yet the desire to do so much good...

I'm so sorry you missed the 80th anniversary commemoration in Bitche, Lemberg, and Rimling. However, I/we are trying to germinate a follow-on "gathering" in the U.S. One idea is to have a book signing... and story telling... I'm tentatively considering the Virginia War Memorial where I volunteer as a meeting place. Would you be interested in attending and/or participating? Stay tuned for details...

Looking forward... Never forget!
